ASU 0255 Haitian Student Organization collection, 1998-2014Add to your cart.

Haitian Student Organization collection consists of memorabilila kept in a time capsule, such as organizational records, event brochures, meeting minutes, newsletters, photographs, Haitian national flag, and news clippings, buried on October 16, 2004 and opened on October 18, 2014.  The collection was donated by the Planet Kreyol Haitian Student Organization of the University of Miami to the University Archives in January 2015.

The donor, Planet Kreyol, was founded in 1993 at the University of Miami as the Haitian Student Organization and later renamed as Planet Kreyol. Their mission is to promote cultural awareness while servicing the community and preserving the ancestry of Haiti.

The initial effort to prepare the 75-page publication "Hope amid chaos: an architectural plan for South Dade" was completed during the Fall Semester, 1992 by a class of the School of Architecture, University of Miami.

In September 1992, a few weeks after Hurricane Andrew devastated South Dade County, a design studio at the senior level decided to develop the course around the issue of the role of architecture in a period of urban crisis.

The names of the students who worked on the project were: Jaime Acosta, Alberto De Armas, Marie Denis, Nelson Felipe, Francisco J. Garcia Iglesias, Ines Hegedus, Antonio Mena, Patrick Panetta, Maureen Pflugfelder, Garciela Torres, Jose A. Vidal, and Thomas F. Weber.

Faculty advisor for the project was Felipe J. Prestamo, Ed.D, Professor of Architecture.

The University Archives holds 2 copies of the publication.

How do you like 'em apples? is a student publication by the class of Introduction to Creative Writing published in May 2008.  It was a collaborative ekphrasis project edited and produced by Diane Louise Larson, English Department, College of Arts and Sciences, University of Miami.

It was written, photographed, and designed by Anna Anllo, Amando De Vito, Matt Kostrab, Sarah McIntire, and Samantha Sanderson with additional file photos courtesy of the Lowe Art Museum.

This album contains 160 color photographs of the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina on the Coral Gables campus in 2005. The pictures were taken by the University of Miami Department of Risk Management on August 25, 2005, and donated to the University Archives in 2008.

This album contains 126 color photographs and 2 CDs that captured the damage caused by Hurricane Wilma on the Coral Gables campus in 2005. The pictures were taken by the University of Miami Department of Risk Management on October 23 and 24, 2005 and donated to the University Archives in 2008.
