ASU0161 Malaika handbooks [university publication], 1971-1985Add to your cart.

Malaika, a handbook published in the 1970s and 1980s, lists resources and organizations by and for the Black students and faculty of the University of Miami.  Malaika is an African term,  of Swahili origin, which means togetherness.

Earlier editions are subtitle "United Black Students' Handbook," and later editions are subtitled "Chronicle of Black Affairs."

A 1969 brochure of Black Culture Week was also found with the booklets.

ASU0224 Manual for the revised behavior problem checklist [faculty publication]Add to your cart.

The Manual consists of a 42-page booklet, 4-page check list and 2 sheets of scoring stencil for the checklist written by Herbert C. Quay, Ph.D. and Donald R. Peterson, Ph.D. in 1987.

The University Archives holds only page 2 and page 3 of the scoring stencil.

ASU0045 Marta and Austin Weeks Music Library and Technology Center Dedication Ceremony photograph album, 2005Add to your cart.

This photograph album contains programs, photographs, and press clippings of the dedication ceremony which took place on January 30, 2005.  The building is located on the Coral Gables campus.

A DVD recording of the event was donated by J. William Hipp, former Dean of the school on February 2, 2015.

A program of its 10th anniversary celebration (held on January 23, 2015, 1 page) as well as three kinds of brochures of the music library were donated by Nancy Zavac, Head, Weeks Music Library on February 2, 2015.

ASU0097 Martha Dorn University of Miami memorabilia collection, 1937-1962Add to your cart.

The Martha Dorn collection contains an M-Club sweater, various University of Miami publications, a portrait, newspaper clippings, and other items of memorabilia. She was a student at the university from 1936 to 1940.

IBIS yearbooks (12 volumes from the 1930s to the1960s) and a booklet "Memorabilia: Recollections of UM" were also part of this donation, but they were added to the University Archives' existing collection of UM publications.

The 8-page publication "Marti, the statesman" is on the political life of Jose Marti, Cuban revolutionary and poet, based on a lecture by Dr. Ramon Infiesta delivered at the University of Miami on April 17, 1953.
ASU0132 Miami magazine, 1989-2013Add to your cart.

Miami magazine, directed toward alumni and friends of the University of Miami,  provides stories concerning research and teaching at the University.  Miami magazine, begun in 1989,  is published for alumni and friends of the University of Miami by the Division of University Communications and is distributed free of charge.

ASU0209 Miami Winter Symposium [university publication], 1979-1980Add to your cart.
The program "Miami Winter Symposium" was held annually in January for one week.  It was organized by the University of Miami Department of Biochemistry and the Papanicolaou Cancer Research Institute.  William J. Whelan was Chairman of the Department of Biochemistry.  The University Archives holds two publications (1979 and 1980) of the symposia.
ASU0250 Mildred Merrick collectionAdd to your cart.

The Mildred Merrick collection consists of books, postcards, travel photos, audio tapes and other items collected by Mrs. Merrick, who was a former reference and acquisition librarian at the University of Miami Libraries.

The donation was given to the University Archives in spring 2014 by Arva Moore Parks McCabe, who is a trustee of the University and a longtime friend of Mrs. Merrick.

ASU0167 Mildred Merrick interview [audio recording], 2006 April 11Add to your cart.

Mildred Merrick, who headed the Otto G. Richter Library's Reference Department, worked for the library from 1959 to 1991.  William Walker, Dean of the University of Miami Libraries, interviewed her about the history of the library on April 11, 2006.

The University Archives' copy is on CD.  The length of the interview is 66 minutes.  A printed transcript (draft) is available.

This collection includes reports, bylaws, membership lists, and other miscellaneous items of Mortar Board, which is an honor society of senior students of the University of Miami.
ASU0117 A multidisciplinary crash study team summary report [faculty publication], 1970 MayAdd to your cart.

This research was funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation, and the 118-page report was written by the University of Miami Multidiscipline Crash Study Team in May 1970.

The authors of the report were Fogarty, Sudduth, Khan, J. Davis, Metka, Wiseman, Freeman, Haviland, McKenry, Martz, Watts, Blackbourne, Evans, and M. Davis.

The contract number of the report is FH-11-7224.

ASU0124 Muriel M. Curtis scrapbook, 1937Add to your cart.
The Muriel M. Curtis scrapbook contains newspaper clippings, photographs, and several University of Miami publications and documents. She was a student of the university in 1937.
