UMiami Scientifica is the first student-produced scientific undergraduate magazine in the history of the University of Miami representing medical, engineering, and scientific ideas to the undergraduate students of the university.  It is a publication of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Miller School of Medicine, University of Miami.  The first issue (Volume I, Issue I) was published in November 2014.

Una Austin Week, whose maiden name was Una Austin, was a professional concert mezzo-soprano singer peformed in London, England in the 1910s.  The collection contains professional portrait photographs, concert programs, and press clippings of her performance appeared in newspapers.

This collection is separate from the University of Miami's Theses and Dissertations collection written by graduate and doctoral students since 1943.  Richter holds over 9,000 theses and dissertations in Richter's general collection, and they can be searched in the library's online catalog by title and author.

The University of Miami Graduate School's collection of electronic theses and dissertations, over 4,000 titles published from 1961 to present, are available online at the website below.

The collection contains correspondence, meeting minutes, and policies of the Committee from 2012 to 2013 kept by a committee member.  Permission by the current Committee Chair is necessary to access the documents.

University of Miami 60 Years of Achievement is a video program commemorating the 60th anniversary of the University.

It was a presentation of the University of Miami Office of Public Affairs, Division of University Affairs, and was written and produced by Dennis Gaffney.

The University Archives holds a VHS tape of the program.  Service copies on DVD are made from the tape. The program length is 27 minutes and 50 seconds.

ASU 0251 University of Miami Archives Film and Video collection, 1980s-2000sAdd to your cart.

The collection consists of film and videos depicting the history and development of the University of Miami from its establishment in 1925 to present.  These visual works were created by various schools and departments of the University, such as the University Communications, the School of Communication and the University of Miami Athletics.

Most of the titles in the collection are recorded in formats currently unplayable at the UM libraries, such as Umatic and Betacam.  They have been gradually digitized by a reputable digital preservation company.  Please contact the Archivist for further questions about future digitization of the collection.

University of Miami Board of Trustees Photograph Collection contains portrait pictures of the trustees of the University of Miami.  The organization was called Board of Regents from 1925 to 1934.  The pictures were donated by the Board to the University Archives in July 2014.

The historical blueprints and the drawings of UM buildings are important components of the University Archives.  The items in the collection are identified by building name, architect, location, types of materials, and date.  Materials range in date from the earliest days of the University in the 1920s to current day materials.

The reports are in two volumes: Volume One published in July 1992 and Volume Two (marked "As Amended - 1993") in 1993.

The University of Miami submits annual reports to the City of Coral Gables regarding any changes to the Campus Master Plan.

The reports were prepared by the Real Estate, Campus Planning, Construction Office of the University of Miami.

Currently, the University Archives holds the 2011 annual report submitted on June 1, 2011.

ASU0247 University of Miami ceremonial mace, 1950s-1980sAdd to your cart.

The ceremonial mace in the collection of the University Archives was donated by the Office of Commencement of the University of Miami in 2010.  It is a symbolic weapon to protect the ideals of truth, justice, and leaning carried at the head of the academic procession during the commencement ceremony by the Grand Marshal, whose symbolic duty is the protection of the University, its people, and its processes.

There are no documents on the ceremonial maces used by the university in the past and present, but the Archives assumes that the item donated was the second mace used from 1950s to 1980s.  Historical images of the first and second maces are available in the University of Miami Historical Photograph Collection.

According to the Office of Commencement, the current mace dates back to 1986, which was sculpted by UM professor of art William Ward.

This collection provides records of the commencement ceremonies held by all the schools and departments of the University of Miami since 1927.  It consists of commencement programs in print (1927-2014) and commencement recordings (2003-2014) donated by the University of Miami's Office of Commencement.

The UM Department of Chemistry Records consist of departmental reports, newsletters, and photographs of its people and events from the 1970s to 2000s.

The English/Spanish and Spanish/English dictionary, 2nd edition, was published by Editorial America, S.A. in Panama.  It is in 412 pages and lists 38,400 words and its meanings.

The Direccion General of the publication was Dr. Maria Eloisa Alvarez de Real, the Subdirector was Carlos Roman, and the representative of the University of Miami was Dr. Gerald G. Curtis.

The collection consists of CDs and reports on demolished buildings on the University of Miami's Coral Gables campus.  The CDs contain current (2011) and historical photographs and blueprints of the buildings. The reports list thumbnail images and descriptions and blueprints of the photographs.

The study was conducted for the University of Miami by Elizabeth Chifari of Holland & Knight in Miami.  The historical images and building plans in the reports were provided by the University Archives.

ASU0642 University of Miami historical photograph collection, 1926-1981Add to your cart.

The Historical Photograph Collection holds over 500,000 photographs, negatives, and slides that document the University’s growth from 1920s through the presidency of Henry King Stanford in 1970s.  Especially rich are images of UM sports, the expansion of each campus, student life, and special events such as commencement ceremonies.

The collection is processed to the folder level.  See the arrangement section for the ten major subject categories in the collection.  For further details see the finding aid in the container list in PDF for the 4,000 subcategories from “Albert Pick Hall Center for Advanced International Studies” to “Trustees.”

Patrons can browse approximately 8,000 images from the collection or research them by subject and keyword at the website below.  The images available at the site are in lower quality, but publication-ready high quality images are also available at additional cost.

ASU0282 Univeristy of Miami Married Student Housing records, 1967-1972Add to your cart.

The collection consists of memorandums, newsletters, and a brochure written by the Housing Office of the University of Miami for married students from 1967 to 1972.  It also includes several issues of “Married Student News” written by the Married Student Association of the university from 1971 to 1972.

The documents were collected by Frederick Karrenberg (B.S. ‘68; M.S. ‘70), who lived in married student housing during the period, and donated to the University Archives by his partner Elizabeth Chifari (UM School of Law ’93) in July 2010.

The collection consists of memorabilia commemorating anniversaries and special events by the University of Miami, its schools and departments, athletic programs, student groups, and affiliated organizations.

The majority of the items found in this collection are photographs, negatives, and contact sheets of university buildings, its people, and events taken by the Office of Media Relations from the 1940s to the 1990s.  Press releases, university publications, and other materials created by the department are also available in the collection.

The Office of Media Relations is a department of the University Communications, and they are responsible for communicating information regarding the University’s achievements, faculty research, programs, and events to the local, regional, national, and international news media.

University of Miami Legacy contains photographs and media selected from the University of Miami Historical Photographs Collection and the Oral History Collection housed in the Special Collections of the University of Miami Libraries.  The inspiration for this website was a Richter Library exhibit developed by Tina Surman and Ruthanne Vogel in celebration of the University's 75th Anniversary.

This site is the product of the efforts of two University of Miami librarians. Lyn MacCorkle was responsible for the database development and web design, and Ruthanne Vogel worked with item selection and provided the historical research for the textual content.
