Scope and Contents of the Materials

The collection of fragmentary texts and images documents cultural expressions from the Caribbean and South America. The items consist of many of the transistory materials grouped under ephemera such as posters, postcards, leaflets, tracts, special editions, programs and menus published in countries such as the Bahamas, Brasil, Cuba, Curaçao Grenada, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Puerto Rico and Trinidad and Tobago.

A catalog of prints from Cuban artist Mario Carreño, showcasing his works that were touring the Galeria Arte Actual in Santiago de Chile from November 15-26, 1988 and the Museo Nacional de Artes Plasticas y Visuales in Montevideo, Uruguay, December 1-30, 1988. The pages contain autobiographical information on the artist and numerous images of his artwork, most of which were kept in various collections in Chile.

During the Federation's existence, each member continued to issue its own postage stamps as before; but on 22 April 1958, the members (except for Cayman Islands) each issued a set of three commemorative stamps. All of these stamps used a common design depicting a map of the Caribbean and a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, with an inscription at the top reading "The West Indies / Federation 1958" and the name of the member at the bottom.
