The Mario Girbau Collection contains official documents and personal papers of Mario Girbau, director of finances for Brigade 2506 during the Bay of Pigs invasion.

Scope and Contents of the Materials

The Mario Girbau Collection contains official documents such as statutes and financial reports of Brigade 2506 activities, as well as correspondence, clippings and photographs related to the organization.

The collection also contains personal materials of Mario Girbau, including a portrait, photographs, invitations and letters pertaining to his involvement in administrative decisions about funds for the Bay of Pigs operation.

Biographical Note

Mario Girbau was born in Matanzas, Cuba, in 1916. After being educated in the United States, Girbau graduated as an accountant from the University of Havana in 1943 and worked as an official in the government's Ministerio de Utilidades until 1960, when he left Cuba for Miami.

Actively involved in the Bay of Pigs invasion, Girbau managed funds for Brigade 2506, the CIA-funded incursion force that invaded Cuba in 1961. His counter-revolutionary activities continued into the 1970s.

Girbau died in Miami in 2002.
